1694-1702 William III Sixpence
Struck in the short seven year period of the King’s reign and part of the new Government re-coinage which took place during this time. There was a determined effort to replace the hammered silver coins still in circulation which were heavily clipped and worn out. To carry out the operation the Government needed to raise over a million pounds so there was a new tax introduced - the infamous ‘Window Tax”. In fine to very fine condition.
William reigned alone after Mary died in December 1694 of small pox. These sixpences are part of the recoinage and would make a handsome edition to your collection despite William's hooked nose!
Coins are in fine to VF condition.
