Henry III Short cross Silver penny 1216-47

The Short Cross Penny was first issued in the reign of Henry II in 1180 and came to an end in 1247 during the reign of Henry III. After 67 years, the circulating currency deteriorated and many were clipped.The new silver pennies known as long cross were struck from 1247-72. The larger cross was introduced to help safeguard the coins against clipping.
