George VI born Albert Fredrick Arthur George in 1895 was never expected to become King. After the abdication of his brother Edward VIII he became King George VI. During his life he suffered from ill health and was a heavy smoker. As the Duke of York he served in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force in World War One.
During 1937â1952 George VI Silver Half crowns were issued until 1946 when the metal was changed to cupro- nickel. All coins are in very fine condition and were struck mainly in the W.W.II. years of 1939 - 1945.
