George III born 4th June 1738 was crowned in 1760 at the age 22 after the death of George II. He was the third monarch of the House of Hanover which succeeded the House of Stuart. George, known as the King who went mad. This was said to have been caused by the death of his youngest and favourite daughter Princess Amelia. George's sons George IV and William IV succeeded him to the throne but both died without any legitimate children. Which left Victoria as the only legitimate child of the Duke of Kent, Prince Edward the fourth son of George III to take the throne.
