The first issue of a groat was during the reign of Edward I.  A silver groat started at 6.2 grams but was constantly altered until Elizabeth I reign where the average weight was 2.1 grams for each coin. After Elizabeth the coin was not used for general circulation for nearly 100 years. We have a few examples available in fine condition
