After the puritanical rule of Oliver Cromwell, the people of England welcomed the return of Charles I's son, as King. Charles II was well liked for his charm and sense of humour.Although somewhat lazy politically, he led an active love life and enjoyed a succession of mistresses, the best known of whom was Nell Gwynne. We offer a silver groat, or fourpenny piece, depicting the 'Merry Monarch'. The reverse bears an unusual design of four intertwined 'C's. This fascinating historic coin will be dated between 1670 and 1684 and is in Very Fine condition.
