1660-1685 Charles I Rose Farthing
The introduction of copper coinage in the previous reign of James I saw the striking of this Rose Farthing by public demand for low value coins. A vintage coin from the reign of Charles I. Being the second son of James VI and Anne of Denmark he was never expected to become King especially because of his ill health as a child. Henry, Prince of Wales, his older brother died in 1612; Charles then became the Heir apparent. Charles I was executed in 1649 after his long battle with the government over power. He was succeed by the Oliver Cromwell and the his Son, Charles II.
Undated but struck between 1637-1644, in fine condition.
