One such patent was awarded to Sir Francis Crane and later transferred to Henry Maltravers, who controlled the production of these farthings under royal authority. These coins were issued during a politically unstable period, as England moved toward the English Civil War (1642-1651), making them an interesting numismatic relic from a time of economic and political turmoil.
