James II’s reign was marked by religious tensions and political instability. This shilling circulated during a time of conflict, a silent witness to historical events.
James II is depicted with a laurel wreath (laureate) and draped clothing on the obverse while the reverse of the coin displays the crowned cruciform shield, representing England, Scotland, and France, a symbol of the English monarchy, and the date, positioned above the central shield. We have 1687 shilling with the date being struck over 1686, not unusual for this to happen but hard to find. This coin is slabbed and has been graded by PCGS as a XF45. It is in near EF condition
