Historical Background

The American Silver Eagle program was established under the Liberty Coin Act of 1985 and launched in 1986. It remains the official silver bullion coin of the United States and is widely recognized for its high silver purity, iconic design, and status as legal tender.

In 2021, the U.S. Mint introduced a new reverse design, replacing the original Heraldic Eagle design by John Mercanti. The 2023 Silver Eagle continues to feature this Type 2 reverse, designed by Emily Damstra.

• Lady Liberty is shown striding toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag, with her right hand extended.

  ➡ Year of issue "2023" (at the bottom)
• The Type 2 version, introduced in 2021, includes Adolph Weinman’s initials ("AW") below "IN GOD WE TRUST," a detail absent from earlier versions.

Reverse (Back)

• Features the Type 2 American Eagle design, introduced in 2021.
• Designed by Emily Damstra, it depicts a realistic bald eagle in mid-flight, carrying an oak branch in its talons.
• The inscription includes:
