South Georgia was discovered by Captain James Cook 240 years ago. To commemorate this anniversary Pobjoy Mint has released a £2 uncirculated, cupro nickel £2 coin. The British explorer, made the first landing, survey and mapping of South Georgia whilst aboard the HMS Resolution, which is depicted on the reverse of this coin, and took possession of the Island for Britain and renamed the island "Isle of George" for King George III.
