1970 Proof Set

Product code: 0047
The Royal Mint started to strike proof sets again in 1970 which has now continued for every year thereafter. This was the first proof set issued since 1953, the Queen's Coronation year.

The 1970 Royal Mint proof set was also the last official proof set to contain the old £.s.d. coins. No coins bearing the date 1970 were issued for circulation and can only be found in this sealed Proof set of all the sterling coins from Halfcrown to Halfpenny. This set marked the passing of an era that spanned hundreds of years, not easy to find now but well worth keeping as a reminder for the younger generation who have grown up knowing only decimal coins.

A few of the latest sets have become important years for various reasons and therefore in demand by collectors but prices have rocketed on sets after 2013 so could it be that previous years will follow
