1812 Irish 10 Pence Token

Just like mainland Britain, there was a drastic shortage of coinage in circulation at the time in Ireland, and what remained was in a poor state.

As a result an emergency issue of tokens took place to try and satisfy the demand including these 10 pence silver pieces. Struck and the new London Mint at Tower Hill they were produced using Matthew Boulton's new steam powered minting presses.

A few years later a complete new series of coins was introduced and these token coins recalled and scrapped, leaving very few around and making them quite scarce. The pieces we have are in very fine condition.
