Gold Guinea of Charles II 1679
The guinea, was given its name after the original gold used in its production came from Guinea, West Africa. First issue in 1663, as a new denomination it started life with a value of £1 but some years later it was increased to the more common value of £1.1.0. This Charles II guinea features the fourth bust and the reverse depicts crowned cruciform shields, representing England, Scotland, Ireland and France, sceptres in the angles and interlinked ‘C’s at centre. The coin is in good fine condition
