It is strange to think that Britain was once a republic. For almost 10 years it was under the protectorship of Oliver Cromwell until 1658 and then his son Richard for the last couple of years before the country was restored to a Monarchy. This period of 12 years was known as the Commonwealth, during which time, silver coins were issued with the cross of St George and the Irish harp We are offering the large rare shilling piece measuring 30mm in diameter.
