Born on the 14th October 1633 and brother to Charles II, James really did not have long on the Throne. His many catholic appointments were not popular, eventually losing control to loyalist Tories who moved against him. Mary his daughter was invited to be a joint ruler with William of Orange (William III). James abdicated and was exiled to France where he died.
